Q - Are you licensed?

A - Yes.  I have a valid Federal Firearms Manufacturers License (9-86-xxx-xx-xx-06390) and you may check it on the ATF EZ-Check website.  I also have a valid Tucson City Business License and Appropriate Insurance for Gunsmithing.

Q - Where is your shop located?

A - I am located at 7221 E Manana Grande Pl, Tucson, AZ 85710. Please make an appointment before visiting - NO EXCEPTIONS!

Q - What should I expect when I come in for a repair or an appraisal?

A - When you come in, I will inspect your firearm, tag it and give you a ticket with an estimate for the repair.  Each firearm is different and I will have to see the condition of your firearm before I can make an estimate.

Q - What are the things you look for when a firearm is brought in for repairs?

A - Before I accept your firearm I will look for defects with the safety system and the legality of your weapon (i.e. does the barrel meet the minimum requirements, is there a legible serial number, etc.)

If the above is OK, then during the process of cleaning or repairs, I will check your entire firearm for proper function, broken parts, & wear including:

  • Lockup system to include engagement & loose breach
  • Fire control system (trigger, trigger bar, sear, disconnector, hammer, cylinder stop, hand, rebound lever, transfer bar, etc.)
  • Fire control timing (certain models)
  • Safeties (manual, automatic, firing pin, drop, etc.)
  • Cylinder, cylinder gap, & ratchet pads (revolvers)
  • Feeding Mechanism
  • Ejector
  • Extractor
  • Gas & piston systems
  • Springs
  • Firing Pin
  • Barrel
  • Magazines
  • Sites
  • Grips
  • Stock
  • Frame
  • Attached accessories

You will receive a written report of any defects, missing parts, worn parts, ect.

Q - How long will it take for me to get my gun back?

A - Minor repairs and jobs such as scope mounting, installing a butt pad, replacing screws & springs, detailed cleaning, etc. can be done within a few days with a few exceptions. Other repairs can take days to weeks depending on part availability.

Most of the time spent is waiting on parts, or waiting on callbacks from other shops when we try to locate hard to find parts.

Written Certified Appraisals can take from 1 hr to several days depending upon the individual weapon being appraised. Some antiques that are highly valued may take a while to research and gather provenance (record of ownership of a work of art or an antique, used as a guide to authenticity or quality).

Q - Is it safe to ship you my gun?  How would I do this?

A - Firearms are shipped every day in the mail, most gun dealers/retailers receive new firearms in the mail from their distributors using major carriers like UPS, FEDEX, and USPS.  Make sure you insure your firearm for it's value, as you would any other expensive item you are shipping.

Shipping details are explained on the Shipping Instructions to Tucson Gunsmithing  page.

Q - What are your rates for transfers?

A - I charge $35.00 for receiving a firearm from another FFL holder (includes NICS Background Check Fee). If you already have your Concealed Carry Permit the charge is only $25.00. Each additional firearm will be $5.00. Please Contact - Joe Goodale before the firearm is shipped to let me know when it will be arriving.

This will help to ensure that you are contacted promptly, that all the paperwork is in order, and that your firearm will be transferred to you with no unforseen delays.

If you have any question not listed here, call me at 520.603.0063 or Email Joe Goodale and I will be glad to help!
